October 10- Our club deviated from our normal routine and met at Pinestone for lunch instead of dinner. We were visited by the Rotary Club of Barrie. Eleven Rotarians and 4 wives joined us for an enjoyable get together. One of the visiting Rotarians was "Bert" who was 91 years young.

The weather was perfect for a bus ride to Haliburton. The leaves were in full colour and the sun was out. Six of the visitors were going to play 9 holes after the meeting. Others were going to travel to Dorset.

It was Don Popple's meeting and he "lucked out". The Barrie members looked after the programme. Rotarian "Ernie" talked about fundraising. The Barrie club has about 150 members and they raise about $150,000.00- $200,000.00 per year. One of the events is a fun run. They also have a "Trip of the Month" whereby they sell 500 tickets at $150.00. They also have an auction like we do only they use the TV to do it. This event raises between $30,000.00-$40,000 per year. Another project is leaf bags. They get sponsors to put their name on paper bags and they distribute them around the community in stores.

Another event is Kempenfest. This is a sports and leisure show. Probably a lot like our Home Show. They rent booths to vendors and do well at this event.

The second Rotarian to speak was Arch Brown. He is the former franchisee of the Canadian Tire Store in Barrie. He talked about the way that the club recognizes citizens and Rotarians from the Barrie area for special deeds.

Third speaker was Dave Johnson who talked about their latest international project in Ecuador. He joined a team who took $30,000.00 and did an irrigation project/+

The speakers were thanked by Greg Scheffee and President Jim exchanged banners with President Ken.

Special Presentation:
