May 15, 2003 Our meeting was called to order at 18:18 by President Jim Richards. We sang O Canada, toasted Queen and Country and sang Rotary Grace. The only guest this evening was Derek Beachli. Art Ward led us in song and Sergeant at Arms Jim Miners tried to take our money with a bit of Victoria Day trivia. Unfortunately most members were able to avoid fines by having the correct answers close at hand. Ted Brandon reported that 20 new member prospects attended our reception last week. All have been contacted after the fact and many will be joining us for dinner over the next few weeks. Be on your best behaviour and, if you are responsible for a speaker, make it a good one. Once again, thanks to Ted and Hugh for their effort. Dave Bishop did his best to get the car committed over the long weekend and pointed out that we are slipping behind the target. Sell, sell, sell! Sean Hawley now has 60 signed up for dinner. Let him know about guests if you’re bringing any. Kim Emmerson announced that the District is backing use of the ClubRunner web service for our website. Kim will make a presentation at the next Board meeting. If you’re interested in checking it out, visit http://www.clubrunner.ca/haliburton and give it a test drive. Tracey McMullen thanked everyone who attended her fundraiser/opening - $800 went to the Hospital Foundation. Tonight’s Program – Travelling with Miky Once again we had the pleasure of listening to Miky Rastello as our speaker. Tonight Miky told us about the recent visit by her parents and brother. Not only did she get to see her family, she got to see a lot of sights and sites from Huntsville to Niagara Falls to Quebec City and back, with stops in Ottawa and Montreal along the way. Highlights included a racoon in Ottawa (there are many bandits there), the European charm of old Quebec City, the water at Niagara, the 1000 Islands, a 3-hour tour by bus in Montreal and many things we didn’t hear about. Her family enjoyed our country and our hospitality and Miky is looking forward to her upcoming western trip. Don’t miss the final installment just before Miky heads home. Upcoming Rotary Meetings: May 22 – Board Meeting at 4:00 p.m. and program by Dave Bishop and Brian Menton May 29 – cancelled May 31 – Steak and Seafood Dinner in West Guilford President Jim sent us away at 18:46.
