 The Rotooter September 25, 2002 Tri Club Meeting: Our club hosted a tri-club meeting this past week. The meeting was on a Wednesday due to the visit of a GSE team from Africa. Rotarians were accommodated in the Pinestone ballroom. Attendance was a little disappointing. Haliburton had 15 members present, Minden and Fenelon Falls had 13 combined and we had the 4 GSE members in attendance. President Jim shared the head table with President Jean Anthon from Minden and Frank Tillman from Fenelon Falls. Thanks to the visiting Rotarians who took time to join our club for an evening. Our Speaker(s): Brian Menton had things under control as usual. He had been moving the GSE team around prior to the meeting. Jean Anthon also had them for a while and took them on a pontoon boat ride on Gull Lake. This team came from District 9200. We are used to a district comprising of a section of a country. This district actually encompasses 5 countries! They are: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Eritrea. In the PowerPoint presentation that followed, we discovered for example that the country of Eritrea has 4 million people and only 1 Rotary club. Group leader George Kasibante outlined the projects that the District is working on. Three members joined him: Lutfunisa Salyani, Josephine Kivugo and Mary Sylvia. Missing was Kinfe Amare who had Visa problems and was unable to attend. Leader George presented the 3 Presidents with banners. He also took the opportunity to specifically name projects that we partner with. They are: Water Treatment equipment for a Boys school Home Economics Lab for a Girls school Desks and chairs for schools George was thanked by President Jim and given our standard book and banner. Upcoming: October 10- Luncheon with the Barrie Club November 14- Foundation presentation November 22- Auction This weekend: 6 members are at the District Convention in Royun Noranda Have a great week !
