October 3, 2002 We started our meeting at 17:20 with a much better turnout than at the TriClub Meeting. We followed the usual O Canada, toast to the Queen (who's now in Canada) and Rotary Grace with the introduction of regular visitor Charlie Lindemann and Linda Porter's husband, Bob. Since Art Ward was present, we sang a few tunes - Shine on Harvest Moon, Pack up Your Troubles and A Helping Hand. Sergeant at Arms duties were performed by Jim Miners. Although Jim listed a number of infractions that could have raised a little change, he zoomed in on two money makers. One loonie from every member who had never attended a Rotary meeting on an island (see RI this month) and one toonie from every member who missed the Tri Club Meeting. The very substantial collection was handed over to Ray Selbie for the Polio Plus campaign. Lynda Beachli gave us the opportunity to wish Bob Stinson a happy birthday and watch him try to read the big numbers on his new tape measure. President Jim told us about some mail he received - a thank-you from Vernon Moore for his new scooter, one from Barb Bolin for her new campus' reception desk and Mary Negundo, a member of the African Group Study Exchange. President Jim reminded us that about a quarter of the Barrie club is coming to Haliburton for our next meeting - and that the meeting is at noon. We should try not to be outnumbered this time, so please do your best to come and hear what the visiting members have to say for themselves. Lynda Beachli again - Christmas, this time. The annual party will be at the Wigamog Inn on December 7 - details will be forthcoming, but put it on your calendar now. Since Lynda is so far working alone, he details might come sooner if some members would volunteer to join her on the organizing committee. Good news for some - stand up comedy is out, dancing is in. A reminder from Peter Forgrave - shop early and often for your donations to the upcoming auction - and be creative. President Jim had Unicef boxes for anyone who could find a place for one or two. This joint venture is intended to raise money for the Polio Plus campaign and will last only until the end of October. Brian Menton mentioned that nominations for the outbound GSE will be accepted until November 1. Since tonight's pre-arranged speaker was unable to attend, we had a rather detailed and interesting report of the recent District Conference, attended by President Jim, VP Steve, ADG Ted, Past President Andy, Brian Black, Mr. Menton's wife, Dorothy and Mrs. Menton's husband, Brian. From all reports our representatives behaved themselves, had fun, attended a lot of interesting sessions and saw a lot of Ontario and Quebec. Mind you, these reports came from our representatives themselves. VP Steve also told us that Miky went along for the first district exchange student conference for this year. She also behaved herself, had fun, attended a lot of interesting sessions and saw a lot of Ontario and Quebec horses. Just before the meeting was adjourned Andy thanked everyone for their support of the Terry Fox Run and Art thanked those who supported the Camp for the Deaf Foundation. President Jim sent us home at 18:57. Jim Miners
